After attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee I spent three years on active duty in the Navy as Engineer Officer on a small combatant ship. During my tour I served as project manager for my vessel’s overhaul in an Italian shipyard. This experience provided invaluable lessons in strategic planning, leadership, cooperative working relationships, and engineering management.
After active duty I completed an MS degree in Civil Engineering (structures) and coursework for a PhD. I then practiced structural design for three years, earning Professional Engineer registration. I then held various roles in construction management including subcontractor, general contractor, construction manager and owner’s representative.
In 1988 I began offering consulting and facilitation services to support more cooperative delivery of construction projects. Over the years I learned high order skills as a developmental facilitator of group process. My engineering background afforded me a common sense approach to developing models of the cooperation process. These experiences helped me recognize the universal nature of the principles and practices of cooperation. As a result, I have worked beyond the Construction industry in realms including Aerospace and Defense, Education, Government, Healthcare, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.
I am passionate about helping individuals, groups and organizations realize the rewards of higher productivity and satisfaction through more cooperative orientations, behaviors and processes.
